Honda, Toyota maintain growth; Nissan deliveries flat

Automotive News China | 2019/7/9

Toyota and Honda extended recent sales gains in China last month, but local deliveries at Nissan were flat.

Toyota sales advanced 13 percent to roughly 124,500 in June, according to figures released by its joint ventures with China FAW Group Corp. and GAC Motor Co.

The growth was achieved behind demand for redesigned products such as the Camry and Avalon sedans, which are based on Toyota’s new global vehicle platform dubbed Toyota New Global Architecture, according to the two joint ventures.

Honda deliveries surged 37 percent to 148,382 in June, led by the CR-V crossover and Civic sedan, according to Honda’s China office.

Nissan delivered 131,071 vehicles last month, unchanged from a year earlier, according to its China office.

In the first six months, Toyota sales rose 11 percent to approach 663,200 while Honda deliveries jumped 22 percent to 745,409. Nissan sales slid 0.3 percent to 718,268.

Two smaller Japanese brands, Mazda and Mitsubishi, posted mixed results in China last month: Mazda sales rebounded 1.4 percent to 19,574 while Mitsubishi deliveries dropped 8.6 percent to 11,066.

In the first half, Mazda sales slumped 27 percent to 106,345 while Mitsubishi deliveries fell 16 percent to 63,095.
